A lone man standing in front of a seemingly impenetrable wall covered with braille that he can’t read pretty much sums up how I feel on the brink of 2012.
Behind me are the walls and pitfalls I’ve already surmounted and survived – the agent, publisher and producer chase of every writer. Now a new wall – the new paradigm – confronts me. If I could read them, the words on the stones would say social networking and SEO and platform, and in one essential case, Blog – enter HERE!
I am entering the new paradigm.
In some places for New Year’s, they whitewash their houses or break glasses. I’m launching a blog. I’ve never been a blogger before and I can’t imagine that the world needs yet another one. Hopefully I will bring some value-added to your reading mine.
I’m a writer, I live in Paris, I had an exceptional career working in over forty countries and traveling in another sixty simply for pleasure. I’m an advocate for the arts and founded the Smith Prize for political theatre. I’ve won numerous writing competitions. My first novel will be published in early 2012 with a second close behind on its heels.
What I blog about will revolve around writing but with an Everyman’s appeal. I expect to post about once a week, and will channel entries through four columns to bring some cohesion to this space; in other words, I’ll try not to ramble. I expect the columns will develop over time. They are:
- From a Paris café… commentary on the writer’s life and the writing process
- Worth Writing Home About… whatever that ultimately evolves into
- Writely So… on craft
- The Writer’s Spin… from guest bloggers who have something to say to writers
Soon the blog will be fully interactive with all the usual bells, whistles, links and RSS feeds.
I’m an active guy doing a lot of stuff, and I’m obsessed by travel, writing and enjoying life all at the same time, so there is no end to interesting topics that I can draw upon.
I hope you will want to read more in the new year.
Happy New Year!
